Bakrie – Itacha was planning to build gas rectification facility to produce methanol from coal to methanol product in Bengalon District, East Kalimantan. Tectona Mitra Utama (TMU) is engaged by AECOM to conduct geotechnical investigation in the proposed Coal to Methane (CTM) plant owned by Air Products (AP).
In total there were 8 boreholes that were carried out during the geotechnical investigation campaign. The geotechnical investigation campaign comprise field in-situ test i.e. Standard Penetration Test (SPT), Field Vane Shear Test (FVST) and undisturbed sampling. The samples were tested with various laboratory test which met AP standard.
The boreholes are mostly located in nearshore area with water depth up to 9 meter. Therefore TMU performs the geotechnical drilling using a reinforced wood platform. Weather condition and high tide were the main challenge during the geotechnical investigation fieldwork. Soft soil was founded up to 25 meter depth and competent soil layer was encountered up to 80 meter depth.
